2. CODAS ADCP Processing

A shipboard ADCP reports currents measured along each of its beams. Software is needed to read these files, combine them with ancillary measurements such as heading and position, transform beam velocities into earth coordinates, and remove the motion of the ship to obtain the final product: ocean velocity.

CODAS software runs on OSX and Linux. Native Windows compilation has not worked for some time. A preconfigured virtual computer is provided as another option. Programs are written in C and Python. CODAS processing can handle Teledyne RDI ADCP data collected by UHDAS, VmDAS, or DAS 2.48 (ran on a DOS machine). CODAS cannot at present support data collected by Transect.

Note

(1) We no longer use nor maintain CODAS Matlab processing. We will continue to support the Matlab programs used to read CODAS Matlab output files, raw ADCP datafiles, and rbins.

As always, the version of CODAS documentation installed on the processing computer at the same time as the processing programs, is the version consistent with that processing code.
