Installation of UHDAS for data collectionΒΆ

This process is not documented well enough to hand off to someone else. At the moment, It takes (roughly) the following to get UHDAS installed on a ship:

  1. Ship techs willing to have a linux box doing the data acquisition (will require minimal system management and possibly some upgrades)
  2. Ship operations director willing to support this activity
  3. Purchase of an appropriate computer ($1500-$2000)
  4. A dedicated monitor
  5. Purchase of a Matlab license
  6. Time (it takes a couple of days to set up the computer here at UH, and several days to do the installation. There would have to be a block of time when we could come set up the computer on the ship. That requires a convenient port call or short transit cruise.
  7. Tech support during the installation (getting serial cables set up, rack mount unit set up)

We are in the process of developing a cleaner and more automated installation scheme, but it is not finished yet. The process is still rather labor-intensive.
