Windows vs/ Unix NOTEΒΆ

Quick_adcp.py is designed to work with unix-variants or with Windows. People with a great variety of backgrounds read this documentation. Newer documentation is mostly written with a linux machine in mind, for example when describing directories or using commands, eg:

cd /home/data/adcp_processing

# comment: make cruise directory
mkdir vg1108
cd vg1108

# comment: make processing dirctory
adcptree.py os75nb --datatype lta
cd os75nb

# comment (must already have q_py.cnt file made)
quick_adcp.py --cntfile q_py.cnt

But the same commands could have been cast as if they were on a windows machine:

cd c:\data\adcp_processing

# comment: make cruise directory
mkdir vg1108
chdir vg1108

# comment: make processing dirctory
adcptree.py os75nb --datatype lta
chdir os75nb

# comment (must already have q_py.cnt file made)
quick_adcp.py --cntfile q_py.cnt

Here is a short table of equivalence:

UNIX shell Windows Command Prompt
cd chdir
ls dir
mkdir mkdir
cp copy
cd /home/data chdir c:\data
cat cruise_info.txt type cruise_info.txt
