2.3.1. VBox Introduction

This is an overview only – please follow specific instructions in later sections

A “virtual computer” is a fully-functional computer environment, running in a window on a computer. The window is operated by “virtualization software” such as Virtual Box, VmWare, or Parallels.

Strategy: Install the virtualization software, download and import the CODAS virtual computer file, and run it on your own desktop.

This example is written for Virtual Box, because it is free and runs on Windows, OSX, and Linux computers. The user experience might be better with one of the other two products.

Running a “virtual computer” will only work on a computer with reasonably generous resources: at least 4Gb memory and a spare 20Gb of hard drive space.
