=== GLOSSARY ===
datestr : date of data start (convert to startdd)
startdd : floating point decimal day of data start (Jan 1 noon UTC = 0.5)
enddd : floating point decimal day of data end (Jan 1 noon UTC = 0.5)
gapsecs : instrument setting: time gap in seconds between this and the previous file
bin : instrument setting: bin size in meters
blank : instrument setting: size of blank (meters)
Nbins : instrument setting: number of bins
ping        : broadband, narrowband, bottomtrack
medens : estimated time duration of profiles in secondsPingsPerProf: number of pings in the profile (numpings=1 for ENR,ENS,ENX)
numprofs : number of averaged profiles in the file
====

NOTE ABOUT NUMBER OF PINGS PER AVERAGE ("PingsPerProf")
LTA and STA data are VmDAS "Long Term Average" and "Short Term Average", respectively.
Only the first ensemble average contains a value for "number of pings per ensemble".
If the instrument was set to ping only when receiving a synchronizing pulse,
(commonly called "triggering"), then the number of pings for each ensemble is unknown.
Because VmDAS can get "stalled", the first ensemble might not be a good representation.
You are advised to look at the *.ENR data to determine time between pings
... or, to have more control, and get a better dataset, reprocess from ENR.

Files are in ascii order: also already in time order
all data from instrument "Ocean Surveyor Broadband/Narrowband ADCP"
all files come from os75

----------

instrument frequency is 75
beam angle is 30
transducer angle (EA) was set as 1.180

----------
ensemble length = 300 sec (+/- 10sec)

----------
Heading Source information comes from *.VMO files;
Duplicate entries with different values require further investigation:
